University of Minnesota employees are provided with access to University reports of public information. Employees are provided with access to Financial Reports in order to perform their official University business, in conjunction with the employees 's University job duties, and is not to be used for personal gain, personal business, or to commit fraud. Access to and proper use of University information and systems will be consistent with University mission, policy and procedures.

Individuals accessing financial reports without authority from the Data Custodian (Financial Systems Support), or in excess of their authority, are subject to having all of their activities on this system monitored and recorded by system support personnel.

In the course of monitoring individuals improperly using the financial reports, or in the course of routine system maintenance, the activities of employees may also be monitored. Anyone using the financial reports expressly consents to such monitoring and is advised that if such monitoring reveals possible evidence of criminal activity, system support personnel may provide the evidence gathered to law enforcement officials.

Violations of the policies and procedures governing proper use of University information may result in revocation of access privileges. Any individual engaged in unauthorized use, disclosure, alteration or destruction of the University information or systems is in violation of University policy and will be subject to appropriate disciplinary and/or legal action. Improper use of the University information or systems may constitute violation of civil and criminal laws including, but not limited to, the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, the Privacy Protection Act of 1974, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 and other state and federal criminal laws regarding computer crime.
