A Budget Period is a unit of time within a project period that is defined by a specific detailed budget, specific length of time, and/or specific task or activity to occur in the overall project. Budget periods can be any length of time but most are 12 months. The sum of all budget periods equals the project period. In some cases, the budget period is the same as the project period. The Start and End Dates are determined by the sponsoring agency and/or Sponsored Project Administration (SPA) when the project is awarded.
