Welcome to the University of Minnesota Financial Reports Demo page!

Featured on the following screens are examples of sponsored financial reports created as part of the Grants Management Initiative. The first of the sponsored reports, available on the web 7/1/96, were created to assist principal investigators and the accounting staff in managing individual sponsored accounts. The latest additions are sponsored financial oversight reports that concentrate on financial areas with potential risk, and may be used by department heads and deans in overseeing the financial aspects of sponsored research in their units. For principal investigators, the most recent report provides the financial information in the categories required by the sponsored agency

Oversight Reports: Level of detail and drill down capabilities:

• The oversight reports provide units and colleges information that may be used to identify unusual activity patterns that may need to be explored further in the unit.

• Nearly all of the oversight reports are available in two levels of detail. The collegiate level reports include summary information by department. This enables the dean to quickly compare trends across units and to concentrate oversight efforts on more unusual patterns or activity. If the dean desires additional detail on a particular unit, we have provided the drill-down capability to the department level reports.

• The department level reports display summarized account level information, often sorted by specific principal investigator. This allows the department head to compare activity across all grants within their units.

Enhancements:

As reporting needs change and our audience incorporate the information and tool into their routine, there are often suggestions for improvement. As these additional needs are identified, these reports may be modified or new reports will be added.

All demo reports:

Notice that the account number and PI name used on the demo reports are fictitious. This was done to ensure confidentiality for actual PIs and their respective accounts. Also notice that on some reports not all options are available. If a selection you have made is not available, a message will appear asking you to please select another option.

The input values (account number, dates, etc.) have been automatically filled in for demo purposes. On the production Web page, the user must enter this information before selecting one or more reports. The buttons on the bottom row of the page provide further examples of the University's financial Web page functionality.

Production reports are generally updated either on a nightly or monthly basis, depending on the reports. The reports on this Demo page reflect information that could be viewed on 3/15/99, and will remain constant for these demo pages.

In addition to sponsored reports, there are several nonsponsored account reports available on the Web, but they are not displayed within this demo page. Providing this information via the Web enables departments to view the detail and summary information far sooner than if they waited to receive comparable paper reports.
